Altogether 100 self-help groups (SHG) for women are formed in 14 villages around Chandpur. The 100th SHG was inaugurated on the annual day 2007 (24th March), by Shri. Bhupinder Singh Hooda, the Hon’ble Chief Minister of Haryana SHGs promote savigs habit among the poor women. Access to credit is an important means for economic empowerment of women. Groups are meeting every month. All the groups are engaged in inter-loaning. Other activities conducted by these groups include Village cleaning, creating awareness on women education, maternity and child health. Various income generation activities such as soap making, rearing of buffaloes and cows, handicraft materials like Sweater, table cover, manual panga, school bags, hand bags and candle making are being undertaken by the SHG members. Self-help Groups belonging to below poverty line have received grants from the Government. Other groups are receiving subsidies and matching loans from NABARD. SJSS has launched San Joe Puram SHG Federation to promote SHGs in the villages and to facilitate vocational training and entrepreneurial development of the members of SHG.
International women’s day bas regularly been celebrated and awards are given to women volunteers who have contributed much to the community work.
LITERACY PROGRAMME Adult Literacy programme started in the year 2000 have made literate nearly 80 % of the illiterate women of 10 villages. It was conducted in collaboration with National Literacy Mission. Over 70 women volunteers joined the campaign as literacy workers and more than 700 women participated in the programme. Post literacy programme is being conducted in collaboration with Rajiv Gandhi Foundation. Village libraries were established in ten villages.
