About Us

Projects

St Josephs Service Society has covered over 20 villages and has supported 750 families with food kits, hygiene kit and personal protection kits. It’s a new milestone to reach to these areas as a supportive worker at this pandemic situation. It’s much welcoming that through this apt time of supportive work, has opened a space for the agency to work more efficiently in these areas. We have selected the Faridabad block and the villages of Chandpur (40 families), Bela (38 families), Fazipur (50 families), Shajanpur (45 families), Gharora (40 families), Atali (40 families), Badoli (50 families), Nawada (35 families), Manjhawali (45 families), Mandhawli (45 families), Bahadurpur (40 families), Tigaon Chowk (50 families), Badrola (35 families), Bela (25 families), Jasna (35 families), Arua (25 families), Chainsa (30 families), Lehandola (36 families), Neemka (26 families), and Mujehdi (20 families). The food kit were of Rice (15 kg at 35), Pulses (1kg at 70),Wheat (5kg at 42), Oil (2litre at 110), Salt (1kg at 20) and Hygiene kit was of lifeboy soap (5 pieces at 27) and surgical masks for 750 families and which covers 3075 individuals. For a length of one month we supported these families with food kits and hygine kit.

Covid 19 is a pandemic which affects the people worldwide. All the people, whether rich or poor, are equally affected by it. We, St Josephs Service Society work among the poor and always stand for the poor. So we felt it is our duty to help the poor people during this pandemic and we have chosen the San Joe Puram and surrounding 20 villages which is where the poor people resides. We have found that the people here affects of the scarcity of food and nutrients. They strive hard for earning some at their level best but its not easy to find a way for during this term. So we, St Josephs Service Society joining hand with Caritas India have opted to help them with distribution of food and food kits. We opted the villages as per the criteria of selecting the most affected one in each sector.

Covid 19 support works

The interventions of SJSS in Kerala flood on 2018 were remarkable. 150 volunteers worked hard in Flood relief activities. Under the leadership of SJSS, priests and nuns from the diocese whole-heartedly involved in the disaster relief programmes. As the part of the Disaster relief programmes, SJSS took initiatives in construction and reconstruction of houses, installation of basic facilities, awareness programmes, distribution of Health and nutrition kits.
The SJSS is always trying to raise the marginalized people through different awareness and empowerment programmes. The SJSS paves the way for people to stand their own foot through the implementation of different projects. The St Joseph’s Service Society under the inspiring leadership of Archbishop Mar Kuriakose Bharanikulangara, discovers and renter selfless social services to the poor and Marginalized people in the society

Flood Relief

Social work is an independent body constituted with different body members to manage the social issues and necessities of their own village. SJSS has formed SWGs in 21 rural villages of Haryana and Utterpradesh. The SWG act as facilitators of the society and helped to outreach the programmes of the society to the village people. It is the body carries the responsibilities regarding the selection of beneficiaries, conducted the surveys, and organizing the meetings in the villages.

Formation of Social Work Groups

The project is important to address the needs of the people in Jahangirpuri Slum. The team learns theoretical and practical knowledge on disaster, risk vulnerabilities and learnt the overall concept of Urban DRR. During the Project implementation, St Joseph’s Service Society learn and applied many tools and techniques like PDRA, Focused group discussions, Home visits, surveys, problem analysis and monitoring. With the formation of Wash Committee and Task force, the people in the community are aware and concerned about the issues, which they should be raised to the higher officials. The community has also realized that it is important to maintain the good health and this could be achieved through practicing good hygiene and behavior. The community has also got awareness about importance of the unity and cooperation among the community and realized that it is necessary to hold their own rights and raise the voice for their own problems.

Urban Disaster Risk Reduction Project

IGP projects covered 20 villages at Ballabgarh Block, Faridabad district in Haryana state located in the northern part of India. It mainly aimed to help 30 Destitute in seven villages at Faridabad district for enhancing the capacity for executing income generation for their own livelihood. However, this project, the 15 Destitute found their own way for their livelihood. They selected their own trades. The funding partner was Salvatorian Agency. The project duration was 5 months.

Income Generation Programme

The eco system based approach is a method for sustaining or restoring ecological systems and their functions and values. The project area was 13 villages of 7 Panchayats in Kinoor district at Himachal Pradesh. The main focus of this project was to provide safer and improved watershed and eco system health, increased connectivity and conservation, and increases transparency. The project period was from September 2015 to August 2018. Target population was 5879. The funding partner was Caritas India.

Eco –DRR Project

This project covered 14 villages of Faridabad district at Haryana state. This project aimed at the empowerment of women and children through different right based training programmes from 2015 to 2018. As the part of the project, SJSS started the Village Action Team, SHGs, Tuition centers and Leadership training camps, Non Formal Education, Adolescent Clubs. It helped to the empowerment of communities to raise the voice against the gender discrimination and to dream for a better future where they have voice and freedom to express their views. The funding partner was Caritas India.

Right Based Approach Project

HAN project covered 7 villages of Faridabad district in the state of Haryana which is located in the northern part of India. It was also funded by CARITAS. Through this project, SJSS took intervention in the seven villages of Faridabad district through the implementation of HAN project. This project was focused on empowerment of adolescent girls on nutrition and Health by conducting awareness classes on health and hygiene, organizing medical camps, formation of health action teams. Creation of sound awareness on nutrition and health is one of the major strategies of the project. It paves the way to empower the adolescent girls by enhancing their different skills through group activities and programmes. The tenure of the project was 4 months which was started from July 2018 to November 2018.
